Writing like we own those excellence grades

Welcome back!

Learning objective: to write to describe a moment in time to command attention
Success criteria:
1. We can write using all the senses to bring to life the scene in the photograph.
2. We can use a wide range of vocabulary to create particular effects, such as emotive language, alliteration, similes and metaphors
3. We can use a wide range of punctuation to organise our writing.

Go to your English folder in google drive -> Make a new folder called "English Term 4"
->  Make a document called "Writing to describe a moment in time."

Today we start with a writing exercise designed to get us back into the swing of writing beautifully.  You are writing to describe that moment in time, as though you are in the photograph.  You are going to bring that scene alive.  You don't need a plot, just to explore the different senses and experiences in the scene.

Each image below has a selection of words that you can use in your writing to describe the scene.  It also has some punctuation suggestions.  Write about 100 words for each image, using as many of the suggested words and punctuation as you can.

Vocabulary: leeks, bargain, determined, brightly, yellow, community hall, spring
Punctuation: brackets, commas, exclamation mark


Vocabulary: harakeke, maunga, horizon, island, dirty swell
Punctuation: commas, elipsis (...), capitals for proper nouns

Vocabulary: tidal, moody skies, squelchy, slop, bare-legged, late winter sun, kai moana
Punctuation: dialogue, question mark
